Follett Stock's November Partners' Breakfast took a slightly different format to the usual Follett Stock Partners' Breakfasts.
The delicious Norway Inn full English breakfast was as tasty as ever. The compering, courtesy of BBC Radio Cornwall's Laurence Reed was as insightful and entertaining as always... but in a change to the usual format, the speaker at the November breakfast was not the likes of a celebrity speaker, a business expert or a local government leader... Instead, the speaker was Billy, a 15 year old local school student who has had a revolutionary year as part of Cornwall Council's 'Citizenship for Life' programme.
The local business leaders who attended the Follett Stock breakfast found it refreshing to hear from a young person who has turned their life around from having a troubled start at school to now having a keen interest in entrepreneurialism and the local business community. Billy spoke about his life changing time on the Citizenship for Life programme which is run by Charlotte Chadwick of Cornwall Council. Each year, the programme gives the opportunity for a small group of local children, who have had a difficult time during their school life, to turn their lives around. They are given the opportunity to visit an array of local and national businesses and charities. The programme teaches them key skills, values and opens their eyes to fact that there are opportunities out there for young people who want to work hard and get ahead!
Guests also heard from Simon Tregoning of Classic Cottages who acted as a business mentor for the citizenship students. Simon admitted that he found the experience as much of a valuable learning opportunity as the children did! He felt it was crucially important for him, as a local business leader, to invest his time into helping the group of teenagers develop. He commented that the teenagers of today are the business leaders and workforce of tomorrow.
Follett Stock are now looking forward to a special celebrity guest speaker at their December Breakfast! For further details of our upcoming Partners' Breakfasts please email elouise.salmon@follettstock.co.uk.
